What to think about and do over break

- find some clips we can use for our presentation whether it be based on instructions or a cool video somebody else created.... be creative
- before the sunday we return, Nov. 29, we should have a presentation outline. Sasha will do a draft outline and send to everyone over break. Then please critique it and add whatever is necessary
- talk to david for more comments for video

Is Anything Due Soon?

Hey guys, we haven't done anything for our group project in a while, and I was just checking in to see if we have anything due soon. I looked on the syllabus and it doesn't look like anything is due for while, but then again, the due dates on the syllabus always confuse me. Plus, I missed class yesterday because I wasn't feeling too well, and I didn't know if she mentioned anything. Maybe we should get going on this project soon?? Or do we not need to yet??

Also, did we get our group proposal grade back?

Our Group Proposal:

Teach Us Something Digital: Group Project Proposal

For our presentation, our group will make a short film about our learning community. We believe that we will further impact our class and construct “unfinished business,” as Peter Lunenfeld suggests in The Digital Dialectic, (7) if we create a digital record of our class. We intend on recording footage from our class workshops and create somewhat of a ‘digital scrapbook’ of our semester learning experience. Footage will include classmates working on their own group projects and time spent on individual information ecology projects.

Our group has relatively three video cameras available. This will allow each group member to contribute in the recording process. After we have accumulated the footage necessary for our video, we plan on editing and shortening the film to approximately 15 minutes. We will use free editing software so the editing tools will be accessible to all group members at any time. It is essential for all group members to master the editing software so we can collectively teach video editing to our classmates during our presentation. We have yet to decide on which editing program to use, however, we have found several options to choose from, such as Avidemux and Cinelerra-CV.

We intend on using Microsoft PowerPoint to help guide our presentation on the steps in creating short films. We will spend the majority of the presentation teaching and instructing the class on how to edit footage. We will then present our group’s short film to conclude our presentation. The video will be posted on a medium, like YouTube, to parallel Lunenfeld’s idea of unfinished business so it can accumulate some sort of paratext and “laud process rather than a goal” (Lunenfeld 8). By the end of the presentation, each student should have the skills and knowledge to make their own short film. The ‘take-away’ will be the edited clip each student creates.
